Ignite the Night: Earth Hour Bonfire at the Beer Garden
Bonfire at Vasaqa’s Beer Garden 28th of March 2026 | Saturday
There is something primal and deeply connecting about gathering around a fire. As the world dimmed its lights for Earth Hour, we at Vasaqa Fiji decided to turn up the warmth. We traded the glow of electricity for the flicker of flames and the starlit sky of Wailoaloa.
A Pledge for the Future
The evening began with more than just a meal; it began with a promise. Guests joined us in hanging there cards in our Eco Pledge Tree. Each card promises different ways to take care of the environment and a commitment to protecting our beautiful islands and the planet we call home. It was a powerful reminder that while we are a smokehouse known for fire, we are deeply committed to the earth that provides our ingredients.
Sunset Sips & Acoustic Vibes
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the evening kicked off with a pre-dinner drink to set the mood. Guests settled into the Beer Garden with a choice of:
Chilled House Wines or Crisp Draft Beers
Refreshing Seasonal Fruit Juices
The atmosphere was perfected by the soulful sounds of live acoustic music, providing a stripped-back, unplugged soundtrack that mirrored the simplicity of the night.
8:30 PM: A Moment of Connection
The true magic began just before 8:30 PM. As the countdown to Earth Hour approached, we gathered everyone together. The hum of the restaurant faded as we shared a few words about why this night matters so deeply to the Vasaqa family:
Dion Ah Sing, Vasaqa Restaurant Manager delivering a speech before Earth Hour’s lights off
“As a smokehouse, our heart has always been in the fire. We cook with wood, we live by the seasons, and we respect the elements. To us, Earth Hour isn’t just a 60-minute event on a Saturday night—it’s a reminder of where our flavor comes from. It comes from the environment and the hard work of the farmers and fishers in our community.”
We challenged our guests to "trade the grid for the garden" and the "artificial light for the warmth of the bonfire." We made one special request: to put phones on 'Do Not Disturb' and truly connect—to talk to the person next to you or a stranger at another table without a single notification popping up.
“Earth Hour is about ‘giving an hour for Earth,’ but it’s also about giving an hour back to ourselves. It’s an invitation to slow down, breathe in, and connect with each other and Mother Earth. Let’s remember that we are guests on this planet and we must protect it.”
From 8:30 to 9:30 PM, guests enjoyed their dinner in this beautifully dimmed light. Without the glare of screens, the focus shifted entirely to the crackle of the wood, the taste of the smoke, and the genuine laughter of a community connected.
The Main Event: Unlimited BBQ
Of course, it wouldn't be a Vasaqa event without the pit-master’s touch. To accompany the starlit atmosphere, we opened the grills for an Unlimited BBQ feast. From our juicy barbequed meats to mouthwatering seasonal sides, the focus was on bold flavors and shared plates.
There’s a special kind of magic that happens when you strip away the distractions of the modern world and simply share a meal by the dimmed lights.
